SIGLO XVIII

Los orígenes se remontan hacia 1700, cuando varias familias Orendain, cuyo apellido tiene origen en España, se establecieron en Jalisco e iniciaron actividades en agricultura, comercio y minería. Sin embargo, pronto se adentraron apasionadamente en la producción del tequila, crean haciendas legendarias que, con el transcurso del tiempo, se transformaron en florecientes y modernizadas comunidades.

OUR HISTORY

In the 20th century the Tequila legacy grew roots by our founder, Don Eduardo Orendain González. A visionary figure and one of the most experienced and recognizeddistillers of his time.
Since then, Destilería Orendain has embarked on anuninterrupted journey, transcending generations and borders. The distillery evolves, adopting modern technologies while preserving its artisanal essence and passion for tradition, becoming a global reference in tequila production.

1926

Heir to his father’s love and passion for the land, processes, and distillation, Eduardo Orendain González acquired a small distillery in the town of Santiago de Tequila, paving the way of the Orendain saga in largescale tequila production.

1944

Mrs. Mercedes Hernández Montaño de Orendain, the wife of our founder, acquired a property from Don Cenobio Sauza: La Mexicana, as our iconic distillery is known today. To this day, it has undergone constant modernization while respecting traditional tequilamaking processes.

1959

Eduardo Orendain González became the founder and first president of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry, solidifying his role as a leader in representing, promoting, and defending the sectors and tequila’s interests.

1974

One of the most significant milestones in Tequila history. The Chamber promoted the creation of the Tequila Appellation of Origin.

1987

The Jalisco Department of Commerce and Industrial Promotion honored Tequila Orendain as a top exporting company for its role in international markets and its contribution to foreign exchange and job creation. In parallel, the State Government granted Tequila Orendain another award for its outstanding contribution to the development of the region. That same year, the Department of Commerce and Industrial Promotion of the Mexican Government, awarded it the National Quality Prize for the excellence of its products.

1994

Eduardo Orendain González played a key role in founding the Tequila Regulatory Council, responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with the Official Mexican Standard. The vision and dedication of Eduardo Orendain González were passed on to his son Eduardo Orendain and next generations, who continue the tradition and innovation in the distillery, actively contributing to the growth and recognition of tequila on a national and international level.

2015

La Mexicana distillery opened its doors to visitors for the first time in 2015, offering a unique experience to closely observe the production process of some of its most nationally and internationally awarded beverages. As a landmark for those seeking to enjoy and learn about authentic tequila, La Mexicana has established itself as the most visited distillery, both for domestic and international visitors.

2015-2019

With over 30 international awards and recognitions, the Orendain brands affirm their legacy and showcase nearly a century of dedication to crafting high-quality tequilas, each with its own unique character. From the Brussels World Contest wins in 2015 and 2019 to the San Francisco World Spirits conquered in 2016, each award reflects a constant commitment to excellence and mastery in tequila production.

2022

In line with Destilería Orendain’s 95th anniversary, La Mexicana reopened after significant renovations, boosting its production capacity to over six million liters of tequila, a 100% percent increase in its original capacity marking a pivotal moment in the distillery’s legacy.

2023-2024

With a presence in more than 20 countries, Destilería Orendain is celebrated for its deep-rooted agave tradition and the distinguished quality of its products. On the 30th anniversary of the Tequila Regulatory Council, the Orendain Family was honored for their significant contributions to the Tequila industry and their role in preserving a cornerstone of Mexico’s cultural heritage.
