OUR HISTORY

The tequila legacy of Casa Orendain took root with Don Eduardo Orendain González, our founder and one of the most experienced and respected distillers of his time. Since then, the history of the House has been an uninterrupted journey across generations and borders. Destilería Orendain evolves embracing new technologies without renouncing the artisanal craft— to become a global reference in tequila production. 

1926

Heir to the profession and Heir to the profession and passion for his father's land, Eduardo Orendain González, along with his brother Roberto, acquires a small distillery in Santiago de Tequila. There begins the Orendain saga and large-scale tequila production in Jalisco.

1944

Doña Mercedes Hernández Montaño de Orendain, wife of the founder, incorporates Fábrica La Mexicana into the family estate. Since then, it has been the productive heart of Casa Orendain: continuously modernized, always faithful to the traditional tequila-making process.

1959

Eduardo Orendain González founds and presides over the Cámara Nacional de la Industria Tequilera (CNIT), Mexico's National Chamber of the Tequila Industry, establishing himself as one of the voices that represent, promote, and defend tequila in Mexico and around the world.

1974

From the Chamber, Casa Orendain contributes to one of the industry's defining moments: the creation of the Denomination of Origin Tequila (DOT), which guarantees that only spirits produced under specific conditions and within an authorized geographic region of Mexico may bear the name “tequila.” Its purpose is to protect the authenticity, quality, prestige, and cultural value of this emblematic spirit.

1987

The company is distinguished as an Empresa Altamente Exportadora (High-Export Company) for its presence in international markets and receives Mexico's Premio Nacional de Calidad (National Quality Award), consolidating its prestige within the tequila industry.

1994

Casa Orendain plays an active role in the creation of the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT), the Tequila Regulatory Council, the body responsible for verifying, certifying, and protecting compliance with the standards that govern the production, bottling, and commercialization of tequila. Its principal function is to guarantee that every bottle sold as tequila meets the requirements established by the Denomination of Origin Tequila, ensuring its authenticity and quality.

2015

Fábrica La Mexicana opens its doors to visitors and becomes one of the reference destinations for tequila tours in Jalisco, where guests can witness firsthand how our spirits are made and live authentic experiences.

2015-2026

Casa Orendain tequilas have earned more than 150 international awards, with 5 brands honored at 12 competitions across four continents, among them the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the London Spirits Competition, the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition and the Latin American World Spirits Competition, recognizing the quality and excellence of Orendain spirits.

2026

Today, Casa Orendain brings tequila from Tequila, Jalisco to more than 50 countries. The Orendain family has been recognized for its contribution to the industry by the Tequila Regulatory Council, among others, reaffirming its role as a benchmark of Mexican tequila.

Casa Orendain takes pride in its origins in Tequila, Jalisco, and remains a Mexican family-owned company and a leader in distilled spirits: rooted in its craft, master of its present, with its gaze set on the next hundred years.
